- Tax residency
- Domicile
- Application of the remittance basis of tax (if applicable)
- High-level review of investments/income
- The implications of moving capital to Ireland

Do you provide a summary after the consultation?

Please see our Terms and Conditions here.
What happens if I need additional advice after my consultation?
Any follow-up advice or additional work beyond the initial consultation will require a separate engagement and fee agreement. This includes raising additional queries after the consultation has ended via email or phone.
Can I cancel or reschedule my consultation?
Yes, you can cancel or reschedule your consultation. There will be no charge for your first rescheduling.
If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled consultation, a €55 cancellation fee applies.
For cancellations outside of this period, a €25 fee applies. If you need to reschedule, please contact us at info@expattaxes.ie, and we’ll work with you to find a new time.
Please see our Terms and Conditions here.
What happens if I miss my consultation?
Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds for no-shows. If you book a consultation but do not turn up at the scheduled time, we charge a re-booking fee of 50% of the consultation fee. We encourage you to reschedule your consultation free-of-charge, in advance of 48 hours of the booking, in order to avoid these fees. Any queries relating to your consultation should be directed to our Client Service Manager grainne@expattaxes.ie.
What do I need to provide before my consultation?
To provide full and accurate information, we ask clients to complete our consultation questionnaire form at least two business days before the consultation.
This ensures we have all the necessary details to tailor our advice to your specific situation. Expat Taxes reserves the right to postpone the consultation if the information has not been received within this timeframe.
Can I get advice on double taxation or offshore trusts during my consultation?
Due to the complexity of these matters, we only cover double taxation issues relating to offshore trusts at a high level during standard consultations. More detailed advice will require a separate engagement.
Additionally, please anticipate that one consultation will not be sufficient to address:
- The Irish taxation of foreign trusts
- Identification of offshore funds within your investment portfolio
- Corporate structuring
- Planning to exit a business
Topics such as these can rarely be addressed within the allocated timeframe for a consultation.
Therefore, please view the consultation as an initial preliminary discussion, during which high-level advice can be discussed and a detailed scope of work drafted if required.
A 1-hour tax consultation is intended as a preliminary discussion to review your specific tax situation and address key concerns on frequently arising expatriate tax matters.
Due to the limited time, it is not designed to provide an exhaustive analysis of every possible tax scenario. We will cover as much as possible within the time frame. Still, in cases where the situation is more complex or requires in-depth planning or research, additional consultations or services may be necessary.
This ensures that all relevant factors are properly considered to provide you with accurate and tailored advice.
How do you ensure confidentiality during consultations?
We take confidentiality seriously. All information discussed during consultations is protected, and AI-generated meeting notes, if used, are for internal purposes only unless you request access for an additional fee.
What happens if tax laws change after my consultation?
Tax laws frequently change. Expat Taxes is not responsible for informing you of tax law changes after consultation. We advise that you confirm with us whether the advice given during your consultation still applies before making any decisions at a later date.
Will you provide me with third-party references if necessary?
If your situation requires specialised advice beyond our expertise, we can refer you to appropriate specialists.
How long should I keep my tax consultation records?
We recommend retaining any tax documents and advice summaries for at least seven years, as the Revenue Commissioners require this period for audit purposes.
Do you offer tax planning for expatriates moving out of Ireland?
Yes, we can assist with tax planning if you’re leaving Ireland, including advice on exit taxes, tax residency changes, and the implications of moving your assets abroad.
Can I get advice on Irish pensions and their tax treatment?
Yes, we advise on the taxation of Irish pensions, including lump sums and regular pension payments. However, we are not authorised to provide investment advice; therefore, a qualified specialist may require specific pension advice.
Do you assist with Revenue audits or disputes?
We can offer guidance if you’re undergoing a Revenue audit or dispute. However, specialised Revenue audit support will require a separate engagement and fee structure.
Can you help with filing my tax return after a consultation?
Our consultations focus on advice; however, we do offer tax return filing services. For an additional fee, you can engage our team for compliance work following your consultation. We also partner with US, UK, Australian, Canadian, Spanish, and Portuguese advisers, to name a few.
Do you offer consultations for businesses or only individuals?
We offer consultations for individuals and businesses, especially regarding cross-border tax matters, employee mobility, and tax compliance for companies with expatriate employees.
Can I pass on the advice I receive to a third party?
No, the advice we provide is for your sole use. You must not share it with any third party without our written consent. The advice may also become outdated if tax laws change, so we recommend consulting us again if your situation changes.
What happens if I provide incomplete or incorrect information during the consultation?
If you provide incomplete or incorrect information, Expat Taxes cannot be held responsible for any losses, penalties, or additional tax liabilities that arise. Providing accurate and complete information is essential to ensure proper tax advice.
Are there any services excluded from a standard consultation?
Yes, standard consultations do not cover certain complex issues, such as double taxation related to offshore trusts, corporate structuring, and detailed analysis of offshore funds. These topics are addressed at a high level only, and additional fees apply for in-depth advice.
Please also refer to the above for more information on what an initial consultation is designed to achieve. It does not replace detailed research for complex cross-border matters.
